Employee Spotlight: Chris Hill, Shipping & Receiving Specialist

by | Oct 20, 2022 | ZAG Culture

When working with clients, ZAG’s strategists often identify when technology needs to be updated. And whether an organization is operating in the cloud, there’s always a need for updated workstations, laptops, servers, and other hardware and equipment that needs to be ordered, documented, and shipped to the right location. That’s why someone who is on-site in the ZAG office and knowledgeable about inventory tracking is essential.

Chris Hill, who joined ZAG a little more than a year and a half ago, serves as ZAG’s Shipping & Receiving Specialist, which is an essential part of the support we offer to clients.

Here, we learn a little bit more about Chris and the work he does.

How and when did you get your start in the technology industry?

ZAG is the first company that I’ve worked for that is considered the technology industry. And it has been a blast. Up until this point, I worked mostly in customer service roles or in retail for more than 20 years. I joined ZAG as a referral from one of our systems engineers, Brian Yost, but I always wanted to get into tech at some point.

What are the responsibilities you have in your role at ZAG?

I help maintain records of all incoming and outgoing packages, along with overseeing the inventory room. I also help order most of the equipment for new hires to make sure they have what they need to be successful. On occasion, I also am a runner between offices.

How would you describe your job to a class of kindergartners?

I touch boxes and move things. 😊

What would you be doing for a career if you weren’t in IT?

Restaurant management has always been a big goal of mine because I love the food service industry. Either that or owning my own comic shop!

What do you like most about your job?

For sure it has to be the people I work with, which are a solid bunch of folks. Also, the freedom to make the right decisions to better our team.

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Communication can save your life! And always be open to constructive criticism.

What is one piece of professional advice that you’ve received that stuck with you through the years?

“You’re on time if you’re early, and you’re late if you’re on time.”

And for more personal questions…

What was your first job?

I LOVE MUSICALS!!

What is your dream travel destination?
