Email SystemsEmail is a requirement for business today -- it is as omnipresent as the telephone. Ultimately, email should be as reliable as the telephone.
ZAG can work to make this happen. Utilizing its vast history of working in various email environments, ZAG can implement a solution that will be as reliable, robust and secure as possible for your environment. To get to this to point, ZAG recommends following a few ideals:
Email should be secure so that it doesn’t introduce viruses into your network. ZAG recommends, whenever possible to have email scanned as it comes into the network. Ideally, the email system should scan messages using a different anti virus engine than the product being used by the desktops and servers.
Email should also be configured to minimize SPAM; SPAM, if not handled correctly, can have a very negative impact on businesses. ZAG has seen instances where as much as 91% of a company’s incoming email was SPAM. Implementing an anti-SPAM solution should be considered a requirement. These solutions can range anywhere from the built in Intelligent Message Filter (IMF) offered with Exchange 2003 to a dedicated gateway or a hosted off site service that scans email before it ever hits your network. The key to a good anti-SPAM solution is that it does not errantly mark valid email as SPAM.
An absolute requirement is that email servers should be secure. This applies to security within the network, as well as remote access allowed from the Internet.
Finally, whenever possible, email servers should be built so that they do not impede production through inadequate design or deployment.
